Anstead family of Moggill

John†Anstead†was born in 1826 in Bickleigh, Devon. He sailed on the ship Ascendant and arriving in Brisbane via Botany Bay on 24 June 1858. He settled on the northern side of Mt Crosby Road, opposite the junction of Kangaroo Gully and Mt Crosby Roads

John married Susannah Williamson from Co. Down, Ireland on 8 April 1866 and had five children. He spent his pioneering days as a timber-getter and died on 3 September 1893. Susannah died 1 October 1910. Both are buried in Moggill Cemetery. Their eldest son, John, remained in Moggill, where he began work as a farmer and later, managed Sugarsí quarry, worked as a general carrier and ran a dairy farm. Johnís son, Joseph Thomas Anstead, married a member of another Moggill pioneer family, Isabella Bainbridge.
